Supernatural encounter with Friday The 13th freak

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

SupernaturalHorror movie fans are well acquainted with certain iconic names like Freddie Krueger, Michael Myers, Chuckie, Damian, and even Jigsaw. These dudes have scared us silly for decades. But one nightmarish villain may be considered the modern day “father” of cinematic terror, Jason Voorhees. Wearing his trademark hockey mask, Jason has slashed his way through 11 Friday the 13th flicks since 1980, racking up nearly $360 million in box office receipts! The first time I saw him spring out of serene Crystal Lake, I nearly jumped out of my skin. Well, Jason’s back—and he’s coming to The CW! Supernatural creator Eric Kripke confirms he’s secured the rights to the character, and that coming up in Episode 10, Sam and Dean will, indeed, meet this legendary killer. But just before that, we’ll be treated to A Very Supernatural X-Mas in which the folklore of Bad Santa just may curl your stockings. Seriously, how much do we love this show?

WBNX actors also rock; can you find more?

Friday, October 12th, 2007

When fun facts begin to snowball, interesting trends emerge. I began thinking about various WBNX stars who are also involved in the music industry…and was surprised to quickly list 22. With Cleveland’s strong rock-and-roll ties, having that many actors on one north coast network who also “moonlight” as singers is unusual, if not unprecedented. The impressive group includes three Grammy winners (Reba, Queen and Will), multi-Grammy nominees (Foxx and Milian), and a member of one of the most-popular ‘70s groups, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Telma Hopkins. I also included Kiefer Sutherland, since he’s formed his own recording label and studio for hot indie bands. Many of these stars below can be heard performing on YouTube. Here’s my rockin’ rundown… look over our TV program lineup and see if you can add to the list! If you want more info on a particular star, post a comment.

Reba McEntire (Reba)
Queen Latifah (Living Single)
Will Smith (Fresh Prince)
Jamie Foxx (Jamie Foxx Show)
Telma Hopkins (Half & Half)
Scarlett Pomers (Reba)
Renee Olstead (Still Standing)
Persia White (Girlfriends)
Bethany Joy Galeotti (One Tree Hill)
Wesley Jonathan (What I Like About You)
Calvin Goldspink (Life is Wild)
Katie Cassidy (Supernatural)
Cassie Steele (Degrassi)
Mike Lobel (Degrassi)
Jake Epstein (Degrassi)
Tisha Campbell (My Wife & Kids)
Jim Belushi (According to Jim)
Tatyana Ali (Fresh Prince)
Kiefer Sutherland (24)
Christina Milian (8 Days a Week / midseason)
Bret Harrison (Reaper)
Amy Pietz (Aliens in America)

When Sam and Dean met Ruby and Bela

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

What’s the fuss? That’s my feeling about Supernatural adding two recurring beauties this season—a move met with initial skepticism by a rabid core of female fans who are very protective of “their boys.” Entering its third season tomorrow night, the thriller has inspired more fan fiction and videos than any other CW series…with good reason: the stories and acting are first-rate. It’s a heavy load for talented best-friends Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who appear in nearly every scene. Their demon-hunting world has expanded into occasional interaction with the popular old sage Bobby and equally-cool Ellen. Now, the Winchesters will cross paths with hot young hunter Ruby, played by Katie Cassidy; and, later, bounty-hunter Bela, played by Lauren Cohan. Romance is probably inevitable somewhere down the road, but for the time being the girls show up separately and will add an interesting new dimension. In the Season Premiere, we learn that the Seven Deadly Sins—lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride—were released from that crypt, and have taken on human form. Sam and Dean have the Metallicar revving…
