Doomsday’s Sam Witwer has Crashtones secret
Sam Witwer showed up the first day at prestigious Julliard School of Drama sporting ripped jeans, t-shirt and a “Hey, what’s goin’ on?” attitude. This is one guy who marches to his own beat, which makes him perfect for the upcoming season’s primary villain on Smallville. Sam plays affable paramedic Davis Bloome, whose recurring blackouts result in…well, Doomsday destruction. As the year progresses, Bloome will learn more about his terrifying alter-ego. The secret-identity thing is not exactly new territory for Witwer. You see, music is his first love (“Acting is kind of my day job,” he tells MediaBlvd. “It pays for what I want to do.”), which led to the creation of his rock band, The Crashtones. The group has even released a CD of wildly-eclectic numbers entitled Colorful of the Stereo. At first glance, there are five band members. A closer look reveals that it’s frontman Sam—and four musicians who are really Sam in various disguises. It’s a one-man show, with Sam singing and playing all the parts. At ComicCon, Sam admitted he’s drawn to the dark, conflicted roles like Doomsday and the character he’s most known for, Lt. Crashdown on Battlestar Galactica. This edgy rebel should push Clark Kent to his limits, and provide a dynamic new element to Smallville.
